Roy Keane has criticized Thiago Alcantara for the part he played in Liverpool’s loss to Arsenal on Sunday.
After a performance that was littered with defensive blunders, the Reds were defeated in a thrilling match at the Emirates Stadium by the score of 3-2. The team coached by Klopp went behind in the very first minute of the match, and they continued to go behind twice more during the game.
Legendary central midfielder Keane did not have a favourable impression of Thiago when the latter booted Gabriel Jesus and thus gave up the game-winning penalty in the dying minutes of the match. In addition, the 31-year-old failed to pull down an Arsenal forward in order to halt a counterattack just before halftime, which resulted in Liverpool surrendering a goal.
Keane, a former captain of Manchester United, recently gave an interview with Sky Sports, in which he said that the goals that Jurgen Klopp’s team allowed were ‘impossible to believe.’ Here is what he had to say (as quoted by The Liverpool Echo):
“It’s tough, but he does make contact and you are in trouble. I thought for the two goals, Thiago was very poor in terms of his midfield reactions. It is no good having all that experience and not using it. Some of the goals, from Liverpool’s point of view, are so poor and actually hard to believe you are watching because it’s really bad positional play from experienced players.”
Thiago has been an important part of Jurgen Klopp’s squad since he moved to Liverpool from Bayern Munich in 2020. However, an injury has limited him to only three appearances in the Premier League so far this season.
