“I Wouldn’t Close Any Door”, Sir Jim Ratcliffe Warns The Raine Group About Chelsea

It’s been weeks since the sale of Chelsea has been decided and there is still no conclusive statement on what the future of the club holds. The interested bidders were inspected carefully and the final shortlist was prepared by the Raine group weeks ago. To add to this, the club’s recent form and doubts over the future of some of their key players are making the fans even more frustrated.

In the last few days, a few reports came out claiming Todd Boehly, part of the American baseball team the Los Angeles Dodgers and his consortium are the potential winners of the race and the new owners of Chelsea. Right when things were about to get sorted, Britain’s richest man Sir Jim Ratcliffe submitted a bid of £4.2 billion to buy the club.

Initially, it was reported that his late bid was rejected and Boehly and his consortium are still leading the race but in the last few hours, a few English newspapers started stating that the Raine group is now seriously considering Ratcliffe’s offer.

Can Sir Jim Ratcliffe Win The Race For Chelsea?

In Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s words, “If I was Raine I wouldn’t close any door”. So, it’s clear that he is far from giving up on his dream of acquiring Chelsea. Despite being a Manchester United fan, he has ‘split loyalties between Chelsea and United. Thus, he had previously shown interest in buying the club on a few occasions. In 2018, he was close to submitting a bid but the then valuation put him off. He is the current owner of the Ligue 1 side OGC Nice and has attracted attention for pumping in £1.75 billion in the past decade or so. He reportedly also has big plans for Chelsea and a few of those include renovating Stamford Bridge, further improving the training facilities, making the first team men and women squad even better etc.

It looks like the tug of war is back on the table and the Raine group is still indecisive on which bid to pick. The recent rumours regarding the enormous loan on Chelsea have unsettled all the supporters. So, they do want the issue over their new owners to be sorted as soon as possible and as swiftly as possible. Now it’s just ‘wait and watch’ time for them.
