‘I can run fast but I didn’t know I can play in that position’-Denis Zakaria responds on learning that Thomas Tuchel wanted to pay him as wing-back

According to football-london, Chelsea midfielder Denis Zakaria has responded with astonishment to former manager Thomas Tuchel’s suggestion that he may play as a wing-back for the club. Zakaria is surprised that Tuchel would make such a suggestion.

On the day that the transfer deadline passed, Zakaria made the move to the Blues from Juventus on a season-long loan with the option to purchase for about £26 million.

Since he arrived at Chelsea, he has not yet made his debut, therefore for his transfer to become permanent, he will need to demonstrate his worth.

On the other hand, he was taken aback when he learned that former Blues manager Tuchel had proposed that he might play Zakaria in the position of wing back.

The Swiss midfielder said when asked if he could play the role: “Oh, no, no, no,”

He continued: “I didn’t know (Tuchel said that). Ok, I can run fast but I didn’t know I can play in that position! I am a really flexible player. Yes, I can adapt myself. That’s also a good part of me. In the end, I am a midfield player first.”

Zakaria moved to Juventus from Borussia Monchengladbach in January for a transfer fee of 7.74 million pounds. However, he only played 15 times for the Turin club because of ongoing physical problems.

The possibility of the midfielder being moved to the wing back position is not something Graham Potter’s team has to worry about since they have other players who can fill that job.
