Galatasaray probes for Arsenal midfielder amidst Premier League chaos

Turkish side Galatasary have made an offer for Arsenal’s midfielder, Elneny. The Turkish giants have until today when their domestic transfer window shuts down to conclude the deal for the Egyptian. The 26-year-old who joined Arsenal from Swiss club Basel in 2016 has only one year left on his contract in North London and Arsenal might be tempted to get some money for him rather than seeing him leave on a free in the next summer transfer window.

Elneny already has previous experience of playing in the Turkish league, as he spent the 2019/20 season on a loan to the Turkish side Besiktas. While previous manager Unai Emery wasn’t a big fan of Mohamed Elneny, he has featured 41 times in all competitions last season under Mikel Arteta, who is reportedly a great admirer of the player. Should he move to Galatasary, he would join a host of players who have Premier League experience as well, players such as Patrick van Aanholt, Yedlin, and ex-West Brom striker, Mbaye Diagne.

While he was seen featuring a number of times last season, Elneny’s game time this season looks minimal with the arrival of Sambi Lokonga. The Egyptian was also benched in the opening two games of the season, but was seen playing in the second half in their humiliating 5-0 loss to Manchester City. Arsenal are reportedly open to selling Elneny but for the right price, and negotiations are underway between Galatasary and the Gunners.

What next for the Gunners after the exit of Elneny?

While the transfer window has now shut down in England, Arsenal have added many new faces to their squad this window. All the signings made by the Gunners are under the age of 23, Arteta explained that they are building a foundation for years to come with these signings. Players such as Ben White, Tomiyasu, Sambi Lokonga, and Martin Odegaard will be looking to make an impact as Arsenal faces Norwich City next in the Premier League. A
