Gareth Southgate hints at Manchester United players still in line to make the cut for the English squad

Gareth Southgate has named his squad for England’s games against Itlay and Germany, with players featuring from Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc. The Three Lions will face the two European giants as part of the Nations League games.

The English manager has heavily relied upon the Manchester contingent. Gareth Southgate has selected three players from Manchester United and five from Manchester City.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have also made it to the 28 men squad. Although this season both of them have lost their place in the starting lineups under Erik Ten Hag.

Dean Henderson has also returned to the Three Lions squad. He is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Old Trafford. However,  Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have missed out. Both forwards started the season brightly. While Rashford is out injured and thus not selected. Sancho is fit and available but he has been overlooked for other players. The Manchester United duo will be hoping to be a part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

As for the Blue contingent of Manchester,  the likes of Kyle Walker, John Stones, Kalvin Phillips, Phil Foden, and Jack Grealish all have retained their places.

These two games will be crucial for England as they head into the World Cup in Qatar. This will be for the first time that the FIFA World Cup is being held in winter. England is in Group B along with Iran, the United States of America, and Wales. England will take on Iran in their game of the World Cup on 21st November.

The Three Lions will not play any friendlies before the World Cup as well. Thus these two games will be a good warm-up for them. The two games will also determine their fate in the Nations League tournament as well.

The Euro 2020 finalists will first travel to Milan to take on Itlay at the San Siro on 24th September 2022. Then they will return home to welcome Germany at Wembley. This will be their final game in the group stage of the Nations League.
