Four Predictions for the 2022-23 Premier League season

The last season of the Premier League was arguably one of the most exciting seasons in recent times. Manchester City going two goals down before winning 3-2, Tottenham’s miracle comeback against Leicester City, Everton’s just narrowly escaping the relegation battle etc. Thus the fans are now excited for the next season as well.

The unpredictable nature of the league adds more spice to the Premier League drama. For eg: Manchester United were expected to be in the top four. However, they could only settle for a Europa League spot. But despite this uncertainty, certain predictions can be made. These predictions will be based upon last season, transfer activities and other factors.

Many clubs have already signed players and look to bring more recruitment. While other clubs are also working hard behind the scenes. However, a lot could also happen given that there is plenty of time still left in the transfer window. Thus here are four predictions for the Premier League 2022-23 season.

1. Manchester City will be Champions

Even at the peak of thier powers, Liverpool could not stop Pep Guardiola. While other teams can’t even think of competing with these two giants. Manchester City already have players with very good Premier League pedigree now. This means they have players with quality as well as experience. In other words, Pep Guardiola has built a team that knows how to win titles.

The only alleged weakness in thier team was the lack of a striker. The Citizens wasted no time in addressing that as well. With the arrival of Erling Haaland, they are very much a complete team now. Also, even if Haaland does not perform well, Guardiola could again opt for a false nine. Thus it looks very unlikely as to how the Citizens will not win the league.

2. Tottenham Hotspur will finish runners-up

Despite winning the Premier League in his first season, Antonio Conte is an underrated manager. He has worked wonders in a short span of time at Spurs as well. They even managed to beat rivals Arsenal for fourth place. Not only this they also play very attractive and expansive football. While last season, under Conte both Guardiola and Klopp struggled to beat his side.

Under the Italian, Spurs are quickly doing business as well. They have already secured Ivan Perisic and Yves Bissouma as well. Both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min look very likely to stay at the club. While the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool have been weakened with the departures of key players. With City likely to run away with the title, there will be a gap between first and second place. At this moment with Conte on thier side Spurs can be that team to finish second.

3. Chelsea to pip Manchester United and Arsenal for fourth place

Although the Blues haven’t made any signings yet but they are still in a better position than United and the Gunners. This is because they have a top manager in Thomas Tuchel. Even last season, they struggled at both ends of the pitch. Despite this, they managed to finish third on the table. For a while, they were even seen as contenders along with Manchester City and Liverpool. While the Reds despite the departure of Sadio Mane should comfortably finish third place.

Only the fourth place will be left for grabs. The Red Devils are going through a phase of transition and they are likely to struggle as well. Erik Ten Hag is currently in untested waters and it takes some time for his team to play the way he wants. As for Gunners both Mikel Arteta and their team his team are very young. Although they have gained experience but they are still not at the level they wish to be.

4. Leeds United and Nottingham Forest to be relegated from the Premier League

Every season the three teams that come into the Premier League are the favourites to be relegated. This season Fulham, Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest reached the top tier of English football. However, in recent times we have seen how newly promoted teams manage to do well in their first season. Last season’s Brentford and 2019/20’s Sheffield United are good examples of that. With two very talented managers at their helm in Marco Silva and Scot Parker at Bournemouth and Fulham, they might be able to survive this time.

However, the Tricky Trees might not be that lucky. The level of the Premier League might be a bit too much for too cope with. They could also be joined by another historic English club Leeds United. The Peacocks very narrowly survived the relegation battle this year. However, they could also go down in the coming season. The potential departure of key players might play a big role. The likes of Kevin Phillips and Raphinha are very much certain to leave.
