The Spanish giants and Premier League champions Chelsea are allegedly in negotiations over a potential summer loan transfer for 31-year-old Belgian star Eden Hazard.
As reported by Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon of Radio MARCA, Chelsea and Real Madrid are in talks to sign Eden Hazard on a short-term loan move before the summer transfer window. Should there be an agreement reached, Hazard would return to Stamford Bridge for the 2022/23 season, with the Blues not having the option to sign him on a long-term deal.
Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid in July of 2019 after a great seven-year tenure with the Premier League heavyweights Chelsea. It was a dream transfer for the Belgian international. He was able to say goodbye to Stamford Bridge in good spirits. However, the player’s performance levels have been dramatically decreased as a result of a string of injuries. The move has not gone as smoothly as anticipated.
Even though the 31-year-old has been largely injury-free this season, he has failed to persuade Carlo Ancelotti to make him a regular in the starting lineup. As a consequence, Hazard has appeared in just nine of Real Madrid’s 37 matches this season. He has accumulated a total of 877 minutes of playing time in the process. Even though Hazard has struggled, Chelsea has not let that deter them from chasing him. The club is eager on re-signing him.
Eden Hazard is said to be interested in returning to Chelsea. The Blues’ interest in their former star might be motivated by the inconsistencies of Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner. They have both been inconsistent this season. While Hazard may have been a shadow of his former self, being back in his old surroundings may allow him to recover his finest form.
As a consequence, Chelsea and Real Madrid are already in discussions about the specifics of a prospective loan agreement. Such a move would be comparable to Gareth Bale’s transfer from Real Madrid to Tottenham Hotspur during the 2020/21 season, during which the Welshman prospered at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before returning to his former club Real.
Chelsea, like Tottenham, will not have the opportunity to purchase Hazard permanently since the trade would be considered a ‘dry loan.’ If Chelsea manages to win the Premier League this season, Real Madrid may be able to increase Hazard’s asking price before redirecting recouped funds towards other transfer targets such as Christopher Nkunku.
However, negotiations are still in their primitive stages. It is unclear if Chelsea will be able to lure Hazard back to Stamford Bridge from Real Madrid. When it comes to finding his best form again after almost three years of misery at Real Madrid, the 31-year-old will be hoping that the move will be approved by the club’s board of directors.
