As reported by the Spanish website Defensa Central, Andriy Lunin is the subject of attention from AS Roma with a potential summer transfer window move taking place. The club have their sights set on numerous Real Madrid players. The out-of-favour goalkeeper is a prominent target for the Serie A club.

When Andriy Lunin signed for Real Madrid from Zorya Luhansk in July 2018, there was a great deal of excitement around him. The 23-year-old was widely considered one of the top young goalkeepers in Europe at the time, but his development has slowed as he has been forced to play second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois for most of the season.

Lunin has also gone away on loan three times. He was brought back to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of last season. However, the Ukrainian international has had to make do with sporadic outings in cup competitions and has only appeared twice for Real Madrid this season. The outcome is that Lunin has become more dissatisfied with his status at Real Madrid. So, he may want to leave the club this summer.

Will Real Madrid Let This Out Of Player Leave In The Summer?

Lunin also had links with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu during the January transfer window. There was significant speculation linking him with Ajax. However, a deal did not materialise. After constant frustration at Real Madrid, the teenager may now be able to find a new home at AS Roma. Jose Mourinho has a reported interest in signing him.

Rui Patricio replaced Pau Lopez as the goalkeeper for the Serie A giants last summer. This happened once Pau Lopez left the club. However, the Portuguese international is nearing the end of his career. He will only be able to provide a short-term answer for the team. As a result of signing Lunin, AS Roma may be able to put in place a succession plan for the 33-year-old.

Nevertheless, the Ukrainian goalkeeper is not the only Real Madrid misfit who has caught the attention of AS Roma. They have also been connected with Eden Hazard, Dani Ceballos, Mariano Diaz and Jesus Vallejo. A move for Mariano was also a possibility for the Serie A giants in January. But the 28-year-old decided to remain at Real Madrid.

If Lunin signs a contract with AS Roma, the circumstances of the 23-year-old Russian are unlikely to change immediately. That is after he arrives at the club. However, with Patricio being closer to the conclusion of his career than Courtois, a move to the Serie A club may be beneficial to the Real Madrid exile.
