“An impeccable back-up to Karim Benzema”, Real Madrid has identified the £154,000-a-week star as a back-up for Karim Benzema

Former Manchester United forward Edin Dzeko has allegedly caught the eye of La Liga winners Real Madrid, who are considering a move to bring him on board

Calciomercatoweb, an Italian news website, claims that Real Madrid is interested in signing striker Edin Dzeko. The current La Liga winners are contemplating a Bosman trade this summer for the Inter Milan striker. Not only that, but Premier League powerhouses Manchester United are interested in signing the 36-year-old as well.

After 15 years in the league, Edin Dzeko is still going strong. After leaving FK Teplice for VfL Wolfsburg in July 2007, the Bosnian attacker quickly came to prominence. After going to Manchester City in 2011 and helping the club win many titles, though, his stock soared.

The 36-year-old has spent the previous seven and a half years playing in Serie A, with AS Roma being his most successful club. In August of 2021, Dzeko transferred to Inter Milan from Roma and has been a valuable contributor to the Nerazzurri ever since. The veteran striker has had a great 2022/23 season thus far, contributing to 10 goals and four assists in 23 games. And both Real Madrid and Manchester United have started to take notice of him.

Before Endrick comes to the Santiago Bernabeu, Real Madrid will need a short-term alternative to Karim Benzema. As of July 2024, the Brazilian phenom will have officially transferred to Real Madrid. And Endrick will need at least a year or two before he can replace Benzema as Real Madrid’s starting striker.

Due to the experienced Frenchman’s fitness difficulties this season, Real Madrid will need a capable replacement. Dzeko is a realistic option as he has been a reliable player for Inter Milan thus far this season. However, Manchester United has also shown interest in the 36-year-old.

United, who just traded away Cristiano Ronaldo, will need to add a striker to their roster this year. And Dzeko was on their radar as a possible January addition. The Red Devils, though, have moved their focus to Marcus Thuram. And that means Real Madrid can go for the Bosnian international this summer.

The veteran striker’s contract with Inter will end in June, and Real Madrid will try to sign him on a Bosman transfer. The question now is whether or if the Nerazzurri can sign the player to a new contract in the coming weeks.
