After suffering a shocking defeat against newly-promoted Brentford, the Gunners are all set to host arch-rivals, Chelsea at the Emirates this weekend. After failing to win any of the pre-season games, Arsenal went up against a side that was full of energy and played without fear and had no expectations on them. Big things were certainly expected from Brentford after having such an impressive season in the championship last year and also a very energetic pre-season. Arsenal also missed the presence of some senior players including the likes of Thomas Partey, Gabriel, Aubameyang, and Lacazette. While Gabriel and Partey are recovering from their injuries, Aubameyang and Lacazette are infected by Covid.
While things did not go Arsenal’s way on the opening week, Chelsea thrived over Crystal Palace with a comfortable and convincing 3-0 win. Chelsea looked very disciplined in defence even in the absence of the veteran, Thiago Silva. Thomas Tuchel’s side is expected to fight for the title this season, expectations from Chelsea were sky-high going into the opening game of the season.

Arsenal missed some key players in the first game due to injuries, and Covid and reports suggest that those players will not be able to start or even be available for the game against Chelsea as well.
Mikel Arteta confirmed the absence of Lacazette during his press conference and said that they will assess the situation. Thomas Partey and Gabriel Magalhaes will both miss the game against Chelsea as well. New signing Martin Odegaard is not available for Sunday because of visa issues while Aaron Ramsdale could start from the bench.
Christian Pulisic will miss the London derby as the player as contracted with Covid-19, while Hakim Ziyech will most certainly miss the game as well after suffering a shoulder injury in pre-season. New signing Romelu Lukaku is reportedly set to make his debut against Arsenal on Sunday.
Chelsea are the clear favourites going into the game after coming off a confident win against Palace last weekend, while Arsenal are the underdogs. Even though Chelsea are stronger on paper, things never go as planned in the London derby. The Gunners would be hoping to get a victory against their rivals in front of a packed Emirates.
