It is undeniable that Arsenal supporters have been waiting for an occasion like their match against Watford at the weekend for quite some time now. They were waiting for the moment when they might expect both high-quality performance and a significant outcome.
Their bright young stars such as Saka, Odegaard, and Martinelli all worked together to play precise one-touch football in transition. A style that Arsene Wenger pioneered during his tenure at the club. They scored the three goals that were enough to stave off Watford’s late comeback effort.
Because Arsenal ticked the performance box, the victory also sent them back into the top four. They currently have a one-point advantage over Manchester United with three games remaining. Consequently, the Arsenal vs. Watford match epitomises in many respects the ‘trust the process’ philosophy advocated by Arsenal supporters. They have always supported manager Mikel Arteta, even through difficult periods in the past.
The offensive group has contributed significantly to Arsenal’s current place in the standings. But the team’s defensive steadiness must also be commended as a contributing factor. This season, Arsenal has preserved 11 clean sheets in the Premier League. It is second only to Liverpool and Chelsea. They also have the 5th best defensive record among the top six teams in terms of goals surrendered.
They would not have been able to achieve these results without a well-organized backline that supported the goalkeeper. Ben White has given that assistance this season. Although the team failed to keep a clean sheet over the weekend, White put up a good performance. He lead by example from the back. He made six clearances and blocked two shots in total.
Arsenal supporters have undoubtedly taken notice of his impressive performances. Even though it has been the attacking players who have received the most attention and have shown their admiration for the Englishman via a new chant that is quite simple to grasp.
The song of “Ole Ole Ole, Benny White White White!” erupted when White moved up to the travelling Arsenal supporters after the full-time whistle.
During this fan-captured version of the chant, White can be seen obviously enjoying the new music that the fans have chosen for him. He continues to congratulate them for bringing such enthusiasm to the game.
The defender also turned to Instagram to show his gratitude for the chant. He uploaded a video of the song being sung along with a love emoji to demonstrate his thanks.
Ben White would want to see more consistent support from their supporters to aid the squad over the crucial final stretch of the season after improving their prospects of clinching Champions League football for next season.
