Arsenal is reportedly interested in signing RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams, according to SportBild via Sport Witness. Adams’ €40 million release clause might make him available for sale if the club can pay it. Depending on the situation with existing alternatives, the Gunners might be on the lookout for a midfielder as early as January or as late as next summer.
The Gunners have been setting the tone in the Premier League this season, thanks to an incredible run of eight consecutive victories that has propelled them up to fifth place in the league. They have done it against the odds and for the most part without the services of important midfielder Granit Xhaka.
When Granit Xhaka was banned and Thomas Partey was struggling with his health at the start of the season, it seemed as if Arsenal’s midfield was in trouble. The acquisition of Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht was not anticipated to have an immediate impact on Mikel Arteta’s plans to integrate him into the Premier League squad.
In the wake of Granit Xhaka’s injury against Tottenham, which has practically sidelined him until the beginning of next year, Lokonga has stepped in with ease. On present form, he seems to have been a steal of a deal, putting up outstanding performances with Partey in the middle. Recently, Ainsley Maitland-Niles has also played on a more frequent basis, providing Arteta with a wider range of alternatives.
Arsenal are currently without an actual defensive midfielder on their squad, a position that the club hopes to address in the next transfer window or the following summer. A number of players have been linked with the role, including Xhaka’s international colleague Denis Zakaria, who might be available for signing on a free transfer at the conclusion of the season.
Yves Bissouma, a player of Brighton, has been connected to the case for quite some time, but the tales have died down in recent months. Guido Rodriguez, the Real Betis player, is another name that has surfaced in recent weeks.
Tyler Adams is a fresh name that has developed in recent times. The American, who is 22 years old and plays for RB Leipzig, has a €40 million release clause in his contract. If Arsenal gives incentive in the form of a payment plan for his release, the German side may be inclined to engage in conversations. Leipzig’s business plan is to develop players for a profit, and they will not get in the way of that.
Adams has made seven appearances in the Bundesliga so far this season, indicating that he has been a very frequent starter for Leipzig. Given the fact that he is just 22 years old and has most of his best years ahead of him, he might prove to be a significant asset for the Gunners in the long term. Arteta would have more alternatives and flexibility in his squad selection if he is able to play at right-back or right wing-back, thanks to his versatility.
It will be intriguing to watch if Arsenal makes a move in either the January transfer window or the summer transfer window.
