As reported by journalist Eduardo Inda, Arsenal is interested in signing Atletico Madrid and Portugal attacker Joao Felix during the forthcoming transfer window.

Felix began his footballing career with FC Porto before joining the academy of arch-rivals SL Benfica. There he made his debut in the first team in 2018. He was signed by Atletico Madrid in 2019 in a club-record deal of €120m after a successful first season in which he scored 20 goals in 43 outings.

Felix, on the other hand, has struggled to adapt to Diego Simeone’s system at the Wanda Metropolitano. He has seemed to be a fish out of water in the process. Felix has made 100 appearances for Atletico Madrid thus far. he has scored 23 goals and assisted 14 others, which is a disappointing return.

Felix has battled for playing time during the current season. He has appeared in only seven La Liga games thus far this season. According to reports, Simeone would be willing to authorise the transfer of the Portuguese international provided he could find a suitable replacement in the shape of Valencia striker Goncalo Guedes as a condition of doing so.

Will Arsenal go through with this deal?

It seems as if the Arsenal hierarchy has taken notice of this trend. They are contemplating a late raid for Felix from Atletico Madrid during the summer transfer window. At the Emirates Stadium, it is vital to bring in attacking reinforcements. Arsenal let go of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January. They now face the risk of losing Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah in the summer.

After this season, both players are out of contract. They are stories about them leaving Arsenal. This leaves them with no recognised striker in their team. A large spending spree is the plan for Mikel Arteta’s side as a consequence. There are ties to Inter Milan and Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez surfacing, as well as Napoli attacker Victor Osimhen being considered.

Similarly, Felix has surfaced as a possible candidate for the north London club. Even though he is not a classic centre-forward, the 22-year-old has shown that he is capable of playing through the middle and may create a powerful frontline with Arsenal prospects like Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe in the future.

His contract with Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, is valid until the summer of 2026. The Rojiblancos would want to reclaim as much money as possible to make up for the €120 million they spent. It remains to be seen if Arsenal will be prepared to spend a large sum of money to sign him.
