Folarin Balogun, a young player for Arsenal, has opted to play for the United States rather than England at the senior level. Balogun, who was born in the United States but moved to England when he was two, previously represented the United States at the under-18 level in 2018.
According to The Athletic, FIFA has accepted the 21-year-old’s transfer from England to the United States national team, even though he has yet to make his senior team debut for the Three Lions. Players are permitted to change their national eligibility prior to making their senior national team debut, per FIFA regulations.
This might be considered a devastating loss for England since the striker has shown great promise this season. Balogun has spent the entire season on loan with Reims, where he has scored 19 times in 34 games.
No one knows if Mikel Arteta will give the youngster a shot next season. So, his future at Arsenal is up in the air. It’s unlikely that the Gunners will switch to using Gabriel Jesus as their starting striker.
Balogun has had a promising season and will look to build on that success this summer. This might lead to opportunities with a new national team and a new club.
