Arsenal Expresses Interest In Attacking Duo In The Upcoming Transfer Window

Ahead of the winter transfer window, Arsenal have expressed their interest in signing the attacking duo of Ollie Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. This comes in contrast with Alexandre Lacazette reportedly leaving the Gunners next season as his contract runs out at the Emirates. As reports suggest, Arsenal have already started listing and scouting a few options to replace the French striker.

What is the current situation regarding Lacazette?

After 4 seasons at the club, it looks like Lacazette’s time at Arsenal is running out. The forward can sign a pre-agreement with a club as soon as the winter transfer window if he doesn’t sign a new contract with his current club. As one door closes, another will open as Mikel Arteta and Arsenal’s director, Edu will be looking at potential targets if Alexandre departs.

Who are the potential targets if Lacazette departs?

According to recent reports, both Ollie Watkins and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been identified as potential incomings. Both of them are still very young in contrast to Lacazette who is 30 already, thus signing either of them will secure a spot in the side for years to come.

Watkins joined Aston Villa from Brentford and had a wonderful season last year as he bagged close to 15 times in the 37 games he played. Signing Watkins will not be easy as he recently signed for a new club and has a long-term contract at the club.

On the other hand, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was among one of the most promising players last season. The English striker found the back of the net 16 times and was heavily involved in the attacking buildup as well. At the age of just 24, he carries a vast top-level experience on his back and has already proven himself in the Premier League.

It is no surprise that both the above-mentioned strikers are young and homegrown, something Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are building on. The Gunners completed the signing of 6 players this summer, all of them were below the age of 23 and two of them are English.
