Fichajes reports that Tottenham Hotspur has joined the market for Gareth Bale, citing El Chiringuito as the source of the information. Last season, the Premier League heavyweights recruited the Real Madrid superstar on a season-long loan deal but were unable to secure a permanent deal for him.
According to Antonio Conte, the recently hired Tottenham Hotspur head coach, the 24-year-old still has a lot to give and might help improve the overall quality of the team’s assault. While the club was unable to sign the Real Madrid misfit to a long-term contract during the summer transfer window, Bale’s current contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the current campaign.
It creates an opportunity for Tottenham to sign the Welshman in a bargain-basement deal during the forthcoming January transfer window. The player himself is eager to put an end to his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, having made three appearances for the club this season before suffering a knee injury in the process.
Bale made 34 appearances in competitive matches after his comeback to Spurs in the previous season. He has a total of 16 goals and three assists to his credit. About his part, ex-Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho did not seem to care for the former Southampton youngster, who was reduced to the role of supporting cast member in the club under his guidance.
Bale himself had dropped down the pecking order, behind Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, who had replaced him. Although the latter has been linked with a transfer away from Tottenham next season, Conte is keen to retain his services in an effort to bring experience and quality to the Spurs squad for next season.
A January deal for Inter Milan midfielder Stefan de Vrij is also a priority for Tottenham under their new coach, who has identified the 32-year-old as one of his main targets for the club. These two guys bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table, having competed at the top level of football. Antonio Conte attempts to rebuild this Tottenham team from the ground up after the devastation caused by Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho.
Real Madrid’s possible January sale of Bale might result in little cash windfall for the Spanish giants. It may even provide them with an opportunity to prioritize a move in order to get targets such as Kingsley Coman, among many other possibilities.
They are also fighting to maintain hold of their existing players, with Karim Benzema the most recent player to be linked with a transfer to the Premier League.
