‘An inspiration for billions and an icon’-Twitter reacts after Cristiano Ronaldo scores his 700th Career club goal

As a result of his goal in Manchester United‘s 2-1 victory against Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored 700 goals for his club throughout his career.

Ronaldo has scored 700 goals over the course of 944 matches while playing for Sporting Lisbon, Real Madrid, Juventus, and United.

The Portugal international came on as a first-half substitute for Anthony Martial with the score tied at 1-1. He put United ahead at the break after latching on to a Casemiro through ball and expertly beating Jordan Pickford at his near post to give his team a lead they would not relinquish.

But this achievement comes at a challenging moment for Ronaldo, after a drawn-out drama during the summer that ultimately culminated in the 37-year-old remaining at United despite toying with the idea of leaving the club.

ESPN was informed by sources that he wanted to leave United to keep playing in the Champions League. However, other teams, including Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich, all declined the opportunity to sign him.

His first goal of the season was a penalty kick scored against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Europa League. Ronaldo has been relegated to a place off the bench by new manager Erik ten Hag, who has also curtailed his playing time.

After departing Old Trafford for the first time, the Portugal superstar has scored the majority of his goals for Real Madrid, where he has become the club’s all-time leading scorer with 450 goals from 2009-2018.

He has scored 144 goals for United over the course of two different stints with the club, 101 goals for Juventus, and five goals for Sporting. In addition, he has 50 hat tricks.

While doing so, Ronaldo has scored an impressive 129 goals for his club teams from the penalty spot. He was at his most productive during his time in LaLiga, scoring an incredible 311 goals while making 292 appearances for various teams.

He has scored 140 goals in 183 matches for Champions League teams, which puts him 13 goals ahead of Lionel Messi as the competition’s all-time leading scorer.

And Ronaldo has only been held scoreless in one of his club’s competitions once, and that was the Community Shield. It is quite doubtful that he will have another season as productive as the one he had in 2014–15 for Real Madrid, during which he scored 61 goals in 54 games at a pace of more than 1.12 goals per game.

On a personal level, though, the year 2013 was his most productive calendar year. That year, he scored 59 goals in 50 games.

He has scored 117 goals in 189 matches for Portugal, making him the all-time leader in men’s international scoring, and he has said that he wants to take part in the European Championship in 2024.
