’15 Years, Goodbye Marcelo’- A Stat Of Legend Marcelo That Will Make Each And Every Real Madrid Fan Happy

Marcelo Viera, the full-back who is famously called only Marcelo is all set to leave Real Madrid this summer. But his statements are not easy to listen to as he was the unsung hero of the club for 15 years.

Marcelo wrote the last chapter in his Real Madrid books by winning the club’s 14th Champions League title against Liverpool. He has won 25 titles at the Santiago Bernabeu which is already a record at the club.

His all-rounder skills will be sorely missed as his replacement Ferland Mendy doesn’t have the same magic in his feet. The Brazilian used to glide between attackers and instill a winning attitude in the squad. He used to help his team win crucial games through his experience.

Marcelo was part of the legendary back-line consisting of Pepe, Ramos, and Carvajal. The Brazilian full-back played 545 games for Los Blancos. He scored 38 goals and provided a jaw-dropping 108 assists.

There was not even a single manager who used to hate the full-back because of his ability to coordinate well with his teammates. Such is his stature that the club is already planning to hold a farewell event for Marcelo today.

Real Madrid News: How Did Marcelo Change The Team’s Perspective From The Back-line Over The Past 15 Years?

Marcelo used to help an already world-class squad in two ways. Firstly, he had the ability to draw players to different zones on the pitch.

Looking at his gameplay, he used to respect his teammate’s strong zones. Therefore,  he always made the opposition players move in different areas, which helped him make roam for his teammates and himself as well.

He used to co-ordinate well with fellow attackers, by attracting rival defenders. Marcelo was well known for dragging opposition full-backs at the corner region thus making space for the forwards to sneak in.

Secondly, Marcelo himself was an expert in blindfolding the opposition center-backs and running between the gaps. This made him score goals or assists very easily by running though open spaces.

He never used to lose possession at the counterattacks and his slick movements made things worse for the already backtracking defenders.

Marcelo was a legend for a reason and his statistics prove that he has done everything to call himself a true Galactico. It’s very hard to find a player like him and that fills a big void at the club.
