“It Maybe Impossible”: Thomas Tuchel Fears The Gap Between Chelsea And Liverpool Will Not Get Reduced Next Season

After another loss in the domestic cup final to the hands of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, Thomas Tuchel and his Chelsea side are already looking forward to the coming season. After Arsenal’s recent dip in form, Chelsea is all set to finish in the top 4 and secure a UEFA Champions League spot for the next season. With the new owners yet to be finalized, the club will certainly look to make a few marquee signings to impress the fans.

Amidst all these, the Blues may have to build from scratch yet again. Tuchel is losing his key defenders in the form of Antonio Rudiger and Andres Christensen. The future of Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta and the backup left-back Marcos Alonso are also under doubt. If all four of these defenders end up leaving the club by the end of the season, Tuchel will be left with extremely limited options to field his backline.

Chelsea Era: The End Or A New Beginning?

All the top teams in the world will look to further strengthen their squad in the offseason where Chelsea is losing a handful of their core footballers and dressing room leaders. When asked about this, Tuchel answered, “It seems like we are losing key players,” further indicating that the gap between Chelsea and other top sides, such as Liverpool, may only increase next season. Where Liverpool is looking for reinforcements to make them stronger, Chelsea is struggling to keep what they already have.

The Blues may finish third in the league this season and despite qualifying for both FA Cup and Carabao Cup finals, they have failed to win both. No one knows what awaits them on the other side of the horizon as the intention of the new owners is yet to be tested. As of now, Todd Boehly and his consortium have shown genuine interest and intention to solidify the squad. Reportedly, Tuchel wants at least one centre back, two backup fullbacks and midfield reinforcements, with the possibility of even strengthening the attack. It is questionable how much of it will be done within a year, but Chelsea would like to reach that level and be again in the bracket of ‘one of the best teams in the world.
