3 Players You Can Select As Captains For The Upcoming Gameweek
The opening gameweek of the Premier League proved to be one of the highest-scoring gameweeks with an average of 69. It was dominated by usual suspects, Bruno Fernandes and Mohamed Salah, both of them got to a flying start and repaid the faith shown by millions who kept them in their fantasy teams. The upcoming gameweek can prove to be another high-scoring gameweek if things fall in place for the two of them. Captaincy plays a huge role along with team selection in fantasy football, in this article we look at the three players you can select as captains for the upcoming gameweek.
#1 Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
Salah needs little to no introduction to fantasy players, without wasting any time the Egyptian king got straight into action against Norwich in the very first game of the league as he comes off a 17-point haul. Salah bagged up 2 assists and a goal away from home as he was the second-highest scoring player in the previous gameweek. 47% of the people trusted Mo with the captain’s armband last week, and he didn’t disappoint them as he got 34 points with the armband.
With Burnley up next at home, Salah is undoubtedly the favourite to be captained by most in the coming week. Liverpool will have a huge boost going into this game, with the fans back in the stadiums, all things point towards Salah taking the captain’s armband.

#2 Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)
Coming fresh off a hat-trick against Leeds United in the opening game of the season, Bruno showed no mercy as he clinched the match ball. The Manchester United talisman was ruthless from the very first minute as he helped his team win a dominating 5-1 match against Leeds United at Old Trafford. He scored three goals from just four attempts and the quality of finishing was such that Bruno outperformed his xG (expected goals) by 2.25 goals.
With 20 points, Bruno became the highest-scoring player in the first gameweek of the season. United play Southampton up next, Fernandes has an excellent pedigree against them as he scored 27 points against them across both fixtures last season.
Gameweek 2 fixture: Southampton (A)
#3 Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City)
While Bruno and Salah will be the obvious and favourite picks for the armband this week, Riyad Mahrez can prove to be a brilliant differential to climb up the ranks. The City forward is selected by only 7.6% and even though he plays very high up the pitch, he is listed as a midfielder in the game, giving him brownie points if City manage to keep a clean sheet.
Manchester City face Norwich next, and Pep would be eyeing a comfortable win after suffering a defeat against Tottenham. The only issue with Manchester City assets is that they get rotated every other week. Mahrez is a great option as he tends to be a flat-track bully against smaller clubs and the Algerian is also very effective at home, with seven of his last nine goals last season were scored at the Ethiad.
